McLaren Property submits plans for Glasgow office redevelopment following consultation
McLaren Property, one of the UK’s leading developers of residential and student accommodation, has completed an extensive public consultation and is now submitting final plans to Glasgow City Council for the redevelopment of a redundant 1970s-style office block in Glasgow.
The proposals for 285 Bath Street would replace the outdated commercial building with much-needed purpose-built student homes, helping alleviate Glasgow’s housing shortage by freeing up existing residential buildings. The building’s construction would also support the creation of approximately 300 jobs.
Situated in the city centre of Glasgow, 285 Bath Street is ideally located for student accommodation as it is within walking distance of several universities, including the Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow Caledonian University, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Strathclyde University.
Scottish architecture studio Manson’s revised designs, which incorporate feedback received during the public consultation, aim to deliver a sustainable building with a modern and distinctive design that complements the surrounding area. The plans also include a publicly accessible ground-floor area, which is being offered to local groups as a community space, café or retail unit.
McLaren Property’s divisional managing director, David Atherton, said: “We are grateful for the level of engagement from the local community throughout the consultation process to bring this city centre site back into active use.
“The feedback we have received has been invaluable in shaping these plans to bring best-in-class student homes to Glasgow, which will help address the continued shortage of student accommodation in the city.”
McLaren Property specialises in delivering market-leading student accommodation and has developed new student communities in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling and Glasgow.
