Our Team

John is CEO and Co-founder of McLaren Property and McLaren Living and brings over 30 years of expertise in property and construction.
John, a chartered Civil Engineer, oversees our real estate development and investment across the UK. Previously, he served as CEO at Capital &amp; Regional PLC, where he was responsible for managing a £1.75bn retail portfolio and held key roles at Focus Wickes PLC and Trafalgar House PLC.

John Gatley

Kevin founded McLaren Construction Group in 2001, and under his strong leadership, the Group has evolved into one of the UK’s largest construction companies.
With a Quantity Surveying background and prior experience as a Managing Director for a major national contractor, Kevin’s visionary approach and wealth of experience have been instrumental in the Group’s continued growth and success. Today, McLaren Construction Group has an impressive turnover exceeding £1bn.

Kevin Taylor

Craig has been McLaren Group’s CFO since 2013. With over 25 years of global experience, he oversees our construction, real estate and international divisions.
Craig’s extensive international experience includes CFO at Jebel Ali Free Zone, Gazeley and Renaissance Capital where he managed the investment bank’s $1bn pan-African urban land and infrastructure development business. Craig holds an honours degree in Accounting Science and Economics and completed Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

Craig Young

Matthew, McLaren Living&#8217;s Co-founder and MD since joining in 2020, leads a team managing Build to Rent, Residential mixed-use, and Co-Living schemes across the UK.
A Chartered Surveyor with over 30 years in property and construction, he brings extensive experience. Previously, Matthew spent 18 years as MD of three businesses within The Berkeley Group, responsible for various residential mixed-use developments in London and the South East. His background also includes roles as Group Investment Director at Unite Group Plc and Director at Capita Symonds.

Matthew Biddle

Tom has been with McLaren since 2020 and leads the Regeneration business, focusing on urban renewal and aiming to positively impact on the social, cultural and economic challenges within urban areas.
Tom brings significant experience which encompasses over 25 years of property industry knowledge, with over 20 as a developer, delivering projects across the UK and covering all asset classes.
Formerly MD at Kier Property North, Tom led the delivery of over 1m sq ft of pre-let commercial space for clients ranging from government departments to multinational companies along with mixed use regeneration projects, industrial, retail, leisure and PBSA developments.

Tom Gilman

Tony joined McLaren Group in 2013 as our in-house legal counsel.
He is responsible for all legal, company secretarial and corporate governance aspects of the business. Formerly a real estate partner at international law firm Addleshaw Goddard, Tony has a wealth of legal experience in all aspects of commercial property, with a particular emphasis on development and development funding structures.

Tony Norris

Matthew has been a Managing Director at McLaren since October 2022, bringing 34 years of expertise to lead the delivery aspects of both McLaren Property and Living.
With a background of senior roles at Skanska, Kier and McLaren, Matt’s collaborative approach, commercial acumen, procurement, and delivery skills contribute to his expertise and experience in leading and driving our Property and Living delivery team forward. Matt is a Member of the RICS and a Fellow of the CIOB.

Matthew Cova

David, an entrepreneurial land development professional, specialising in acquiring, planning and disposing of large-scale residential led Mixed-use development projects.
With over 15 years of extensive land and development experience, David held senior roles at Goldcrest Land, the Berkeley Group and Watkins Jones before joining McLaren in 2017. Specialising in Student housing and Build to Rent/Co-Living, David focuses on creating tailored developments for investors in the Alternative Markets. David holds a Master’s Degree in Engineering from Durham University.

David Atherton

Bruce, a Development Director at McLaren Property since 2014, brings a wealth of experience across student, residential, retail warehouse and industrial sectors.
Bruce is responsible for delivering sites through acquisition, planning, construction and funding, with a key focus on purpose-built student accommodation. A chartered surveyor with 23 years of experience, he has worked for King Sturge, Capital &amp; Regional and Invista Real Estate and ran his own development and advisory business, showcasing diverse expertise across various industry segments

Bruce Ruddle

Edward joined McLaren Property in 2013 and is responsible for cradle to grave development, from sourcing, funding and delivery of projects across all sectors.
Edward is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and has also passed his level 1 CFA exam. Edward plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing our strategic acquisitions and development initiatives.

Edward Court

Karen joined McLaren Property in 2024 as a Development Director on York Central. She brings 20 years experience delivering mixed use sustainable development on complex brownfield sites. Formerly Head of Development North at CEG, Karen specialises in regeneration and has experience working alongside the public sector and major cultural institutions. For 7 years Karen was a Commissioner with the Leeds Climate Commission, supporting the city to achieve its net zero carbon ambitions.

Karen Stafeckis

Oliver joined McLaren in 2017, specialising in residential development and Build to Rent.
Oliver is responsible for acquiring land, obtaining planning permission and securing funding. With over 18 years experience in the residential sector, Oliver has previously worked for Deloitte, Barratt London and Regal London.

Oliver Westray

Patrick, a Chartered Surveyor with over 15 years of UK real estate experience, joined McLaren in 2021, specialising in Build to Rent and Co-Living.
Patrick is responsible for sourcing new opportunities for the business, securing planning consent and successfully delivering our projects. He has an MSc (Hons) in French and Economics from the University of St Andrews and previously worked for Berkeley Homes and Bouygues, gaining substantial expertise in Mixed-use developments across London and the South East.

Patrick Joyce

Jack, who joined McLaren in 2022, is a Build to Rent specialist with over 15 years of experience in the London market.
Having previously worked for leading developers, including Berkeley Homes and Redrow, Jack’s expertise grew during his six-year tenure as Telford Homes’ Land Director, where he played a pivotal role in securing a substantial pipeline of 3,500 Build to Rent homes. Jack’s knowledge and experience align perfectly with our goals in this important sector

Jack Widdup

James, part of McLaren since 2012, is a qualified Chartered Surveyor specialising in PBSA.
James manages high-profile projects, overseeing the entire development process, from asset acquisition to construction completion and investment disposal. With a track record of delivering in excess of £300m worth of development assets for us, James has been instrumental in the sale of multiple student residential portfolios. His collaboration with local authorities and institutional funding partners demonstrates his knowledge of the planning system and development funding process

James Creevy

Claudia joined McLaren in 2022 and supports the General Counsel and our broader team in legal aspects of PBSA and BTR transactions.
A University of Manchester history graduate, Claudia completed the GDL and LPC at the University of Law and trained with Forsters LLP, where she accumulated over five years&#8217; experience in the commercial property team. Claudia joined us from Gowling WLG’s commercial development and investments team, where she acted for a range of clients including funds, developers and landlords.

Claudia Orpin

James, part of McLaren Group since 2014, oversees all financial reporting, transactions and tax structuring for McLaren Property and Living.
An experienced real estate financial professional, James is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) with a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds. Before joining McLaren, he worked in Sydney working for Mirvac, where he showcased his expertise in international real estate finance by managing the accounting and project reporting of $500m worth of commercial assets.

James McMillan

John has over 35 years of construction expertise. He excels in programme and risk management and assessing projects for optimal delivery.
John, former divisional MD for London Construction at ISG, boasts a diverse project record for clients like Helical Bar, 02, Blackstone, Microsoft and BT. His notable achievements include securing the Olympic Velodrome and the award-winning Siemens Crystal building in Docklands. With his hands-on approach and broad expertise across sectors, John is a valuable asset for McLaren Property.

John Ness

Rob joined McLaren Property as Construction Director, a new role responsible for both McLaren Property and McLaren Living projects in the Midlands and North of England including developments in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Warwick.
Rob joins from Moda Living where he was Construction Director and a member of the Moda Development Board, responsible for the construction phase of schemes totalling £685m across the UK. Prior to Moda, Rob held various positions at Laing O’Rourke, including Operations Leader.

Rob Auld

Mark joined McLaren Property as Construction Director for projects in the South of England, including developments in Watford, Reading, Brighton, Bournemouth and Exeter.
Mark joins from Wates where he was Operations Director, a role he’s held since 2019. Mark has over 30 years construction management experience and during his career he has worked for main contractors and as client side on a broad range of projects.
Prior to Wates, Mark was a Director at Qubed and also held positions at Mace, Costain Construction and Multiplex Constructions (UK), while gaining earlier experience at Taylor Woodrow and Al Futtaim Wimpey, Dubai, U.A.E.

Mark Tunstall

Paul, who joined McLaren in early 2022, expertly oversees the delivery of our projects in the Northern regions.
Formerly Head of Project Management, North of England at AECOM, Paul successfully delivered projects for private and public sector clients. Paul’s experience spans PBSA, commercial offices and extra care residential living. Before real estate, Paul managed international projects in Asia, covering industries such as oil &amp; gas, manufacturing and rail, showcasing a versatile skillset in project management across different sectors.

Paul Middleton

Claire, McLaren Property’s Investment Manager since 2011, plays a crucial role in identifying and assessing potential new opportunities.
Reporting directly to our Development Directors, Claire helps to identify, assess, acquire, develop and ultimately dispose of projects for McLaren Property. She gained a Distinction in Real Estate (MSc) from the University College of Estate Management and contributes to the growth and success of our company by expertly navigating the real estate landscape and ensuring sound investment decisions.

Claire Baxter

Oliver, McLaren Property’s Development Manager since January 2022, reports directly to our Regional Managing Director, Tom Gilman.
Oliver’s responsibilities span sourcing, appraising and acquiring new opportunities in commercial, student and residential sectors. He collaborates with the Projects Director, guiding schemes through the complete development process, from planning and design to asset disposal. With a decade of experience in the commercial property sector, Oliver held key positions at Colliers International and OBI Property, representing various clients across Northern England.

Oliver Stainsby

Harvey, a qualified Chartered Surveyor, joined McLaren in 2016 and specialises in financial modelling for new opportunities.
Holding a First Class Honours Degree from the University of Westminster, Harvey evaluates new opportunities, optimises planning consents and oversees consultants in the development process. His expertise spans detailed financial modelling and forecasting, encompassing Build to Rent, Residential, Mixed-use and Student accommodation markets. Harvey collaborates closely with our Development Directors, contributing to McLaren’s strategic push into the Build to Rent sector.

Harvey Duncan

Harry, a qualified Chartered Surveyor, joined McLaren in 2018, specialising in the residential and commercial development markets.
Harry is instrumental in appraising opportunities, modelling land acquisition, planning and development stages for our projects. Before McLaren, he gained a detailed understanding of Mixed-use schemes in London, working with First Base and Regal London. Since working at McLaren, Harry has worked on residential and office development opportunities in Leeds. Harry has a BSc (Hons) in Real Estate Management from Oxford Brookes University.

Harry Zinopoulos

Chartered Surveyor Connor, who joined McLaren Living in January 2022, is responsible for sourcing and evaluating new development opportunities.
Connor’s role encompasses adding value through the planning process and securing enhanced planning consent. A graduate of Oxford Brookes University with a BSc (Hons) in Real Estate Management, Connor brings valuable experience from his time at St. William, part of the Berkeley Group Plc, where he specialised in unlocking complex brownfield development opportunities across London and the South East.

Connor Neary

Adam, who initially joined as McLaren Property’s Management Accountant in October 2019 was promoted in March 2023 to Finance Manager.
Adam’s responsibilities include processing transactions, invoices, payments, and monthly management accounting journals across the Group’s various SPVs (Special Purpose Vehicles). With over 10 years of experience, Adam, a fully qualified ACCA member, was previously Senior Accountant at Round Hill Capital, demonstrating his financial acumen and contributing significantly to McLaren Property’s financial management and growth.

Adam Palmer

Emma, an ACCA qualified financial accountant, has been McLaren Property’s Management Accountant since joining the business in March 2013.
Emma effortlessly handles various financial responsibilities, including preparing monthly and annual accounts, staff payroll, KYC (Know Your Customer) information coordination, HMRC requirements and assisting with quarterly board files and company secretarial administration. With 18 years’ experience in commercial real estate, including working for Capital and Regional, Emma’s expertise contributes to McLaren Property’s financial management.

Emma Moriarty

Jackson, who joined McLaren Property in October 2018, plays a pivotal role in our development team, concentrating specifically on residential and student accommodation.
Jackson’s responsibilities cover many aspects, including the acquisition of development sites, planning and design development, construction and asset stabilisation. His involvement spans several prestigious projects and collaborations with institutional forward funding partners, showcasing his impactful role in advancing McLaren Property’s diverse and prominent developments.

Jackson Gatley

William has been instrumental in evaluating, sourcing sites and overseeing McLaren Living’s projects from planning to completion since joining in 2019.
William achieved a First Class Honours from the University of Manchester before gaining a Distinction in Real Estate Investment and Finance from Henley Business School at the University of Reading. His expertise is complemented by hands-on construction experience gained during his training as a Quantity Surveyor with McLaren Construction before joining McLaren Living in 2020.

William Key

Charlie, a part of McLaren Property since 2020, specialises in the PBSA market.
Charlie plays a crucial role in identifying and assessing new opportunities for our business and contributes to the acquisition, development and ultimate disposal of McLaren’s projects. His academic achievements include Upper-Second Class Honours in International Business at Loughborough University and a Merit in his Real Estates Masters from the University of Reading, demonstrating his academic prowess and commitment to excellence.

Charlie Hall

Harrison joined McLaren Property in December 2023 with responsibilities covering the delivery and development of projects concentrating specifically on residential and student accommodation.
Harrison has an MSc in Real Estate Investment and Finance from Henley Business School attained whilst gaining hands-on construction experience as a Quantity Surveyor with McLaren Construction. Prior to this, Harrison has academic grounding in Mechanical Engineering with an MEng from the University of Bristol.

Harrison Clews

Joseph joined McLaren Property in September 2024 having graduated from the University of Reading. Joseph holds an MSc in Real Estate Finance along with a BSc in Real Estate. He brings a strong academic foundation to property development, finance, and investment, and is able to use this knowledge to help take projects through the development process including site appraisals, cashflows and their debt and funding options.

Joseph Young

Ashley has been integral to McLaren Property&#8217;s finance team as Assistant Management Accountant since 2019.
Ashley handles monthly management accounts, reports project costs, and engages in business partnering with the development team. With a focus on financial management and collaboration, Ashley plays a crucial role in supporting McLaren Property&#8217;s operations and contributing to the success of various projects within the business.

Ashley Martin

Jess has been expertly supporting McLaren Property’s Directors and our broader team in her role as Team PA since 2021.
Jess completed a Professional Diploma Programme at Quest, which covers a broad range of business topics, before joining Savills, where she supported the Head of Client Services in a similar role to the one she holds today. With her strong background in administrative support, Jess contributes to the efficient functioning of McLaren Property and its team.

Jessica Simmonds

Rowan, PA to our Regional Managing Director, Tom Gilman, has been with McLaren Property since May 2023.
Before joining us, Rowan was a Business Support Administrator, at a national charity in Leeds, where she contributed to providing holistic care to individuals with life-changing injuries and their families. Now at McLaren Property, Rowan brings a background of compassion and administrative expertise to support the regional MD and enhance efficiency within the team.

Rowan Vickers

Tom, a valuable addition to McLaren Property since September 2023, is studying Property Development &amp; Planning BSC (Hons) at Nottingham Trent University.
Working with us as part of his placement year, Tom works closely with the development team, contributing to the development process, from site acquisition to construction management. These broad responsibilities showcase Tom’s exceptional work ethic and keen desire to learn, making him a valuable asset to our business.
