Green light for McLaren Property’s 170-bed Bournemouth student accommodation scheme

McLaren Property, the leading residential and student accommodation developer, has got the green light for a 170-bed student accommodation development located within close proximity to Bournemouth University, the town centre and Bournemouth’s renowned local beaches.

McLaren Property has unveiled a new image of the purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme, with the go ahead confirmed following a positive planning consent from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP) and the completion of the site acquisition. Construction is expected to commence summer 2024.

The purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development adds to McLaren Property’s strong pipeline of schemes coming forward across major cities and towns in the UK. The eight-storey building with an Art Deco style façade, inspired by the architectural history of the area, has been designed by WGP Architects, and is located on Hinton Road, providing studio accommodation for students studying at the neighbouring universities.

The BREEAM Excellent development, designed with a strong emphasis on wellbeing, includes a ground floor gym and a sophisticated student lounge with open courtyard, creating a secluded fern garden. The building will also feature a roof top lounge and large south facing terrace, with expansive views across Bournemouth beach, Sandbanks and Dorset peninsular beyond.

The building is also a zero gas building, powered by air source heat pumps and electricity, including photovoltaic panels to generate renewable energy. There will also be a biodiversity net gain on the site through improved ecology.

Centrally located the PBSA scheme is on the site of former garage workshops, with the high quality new development set to contribute to the positive future development of the wider town centre.
