McLaren Property gets the green light for Glasgow student accommodation
McLaren Property, the leading residential and student accommodation developer, has secured planning approval from Glasgow City Council for the redevelopment of 285 Bath Street in the heart of Glasgow, with plans set to deliver a 208-bed purpose-built student accommodation development.
The agreed proposals will redevelop the current outdated commercial building and replace it with high-quality student accommodation in a prime location in the west end of the city.
Situated in the city centre of Glasgow, 285 Bath Street is ideally located for student accommodation and within walking distance of the city’s universities, including The University of Glasgow, Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow Caledonian University, The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Strathclyde University.
Designed by Scottish architecture studio Manson’s, the modern and distinctive design complements the surrounding area, with the 13-storey building targeting BREEAM Excellent and EPC A as standard.
The development will provide high-quality amenities including a small coffee shop on the ground floor, along with substantial resident amenity areas including games room, lounge spaces, a private dining room, study lounges with study pods and social media rooms.
The lower ground level is home to a gym, karaoke room and cinema room, while on the first floor a yoga and relaxation room and wellness lounge provide quiet spaces, along with an external terrace. On the upper floors a garden room and lounge with adjacent external terrace, provide views across the city.
David Atherton, Divisional Managing Director, said: “We are pleased that committee members and officers supported our vision for this site. Glasgow is one of the UK’s most compelling student markets and home to several high-performing universities, and with the fourth largest student population in the UK, including a strong international cohort.
This scheme reflects our continued investment strategy, delivering the highest quality student homes, in prime locations and supporting the UK’s top ranking university cities. We are excited to take this project forwards as we look to work with our partners to secure delivery for the start of the 2029 academic year.”
